Introduction
The All india women Conference was Founded in 1926 by Margaret Cousins and Irish lady who had made India her home.Her main concern was women education but gradually AIWC took up various social and economic issues concerning women such as purdah child marriage,divorce and women property rights.Many eminent women such as Sarojni Naidu , Vijaya Laxmi Pandit , Kamla Devi , Chattopadhyaya, Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur , Muthu Laxmi Reddy , Begum Saheba of Bhopal, Rani Laxmi Bhai Rajwade and others came in to the fold of AIWC. Today it has Membership of about One Lac women. There are 500 Branches all over the country.
Mission
AIWC has played an instrumental role in bringing forth several legislative reforms to benefit women and children. Some of the post independent legislative measure are as follows.
1. Monogamy in family law.
2. Inter community Marriage
3. women right to divorce and Remarriage.
4. Adoption of child
5. Maternity Benefit Act
History
Our beginning was humble , in the shape of craft center, with only two sewing machine and we were working in the small rented room, on 13 April 1969 the foundation stone of our present building was laid by Smt Indira Gandhi ,then Prime Minister of India. First Mahila Lok Adalat was organized on 10th August 1996 in our premises .The occasion was graced by chairperson Mrs.Mohini Giri, Mrs.Kunti Paul President All India Women Conference. The Lamp was lit by two girl children. Today we have a Sprawling double storey building at city center.List of Presidents of AIWC from the date of Foundation i.e. 1943 till date is as follows
